How to diagnose a speed problem, whist connecting to the BT network.(Off Network SpeedTest)


This test is helpful to find out if the speed issue you are experiencing is in someway due to a network error within Link Connect, Even though these situations are very few & far between they can still happen from time to time & this test will completely remove you from our network.

To conduct this test you will need the following:

1 The Router's Internal/LAN IP address

2 The Username

3 The password

These 3 thing's will then allow you to access the Admin section of your router so you can change settings it uses to connect to the Internet.

Locate the ADSL setting's area within your ADSL router and make a note of the current username & password (if the password is hidden please contact support for clarification) Once you have a record of you CORRECT ADSL login details please change them to the following:

username: speedtest@speedtest_domain

password: testpass

Now locate the IP settings & make a note of the CURRENT DNS server settings (some router are setup to collect these automatically so they may not be present) & temporarily change the DNS servers to the following BT DNS servers:

194.74.65.69

217.35.209.180

Once you have made these changes please save & restart the ADSL router and then navigate to the URL:

http://speedtester.bt.com

http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/

If you still experience a problem viewing the speed test web site, please try the following IP address in the web browser:

http://217.35.209.142/

or

http://217.32.105.42/

The speed test will ask you for the line number, please make sure you include the number of the affected service.If you are unsure of the line number for your ADSL service please contact link connect for clarification

Please forward the results to support and we will look into it further and try to log a fault or advise you on what step to take next, also please contact support if you experience any problem conducting the test.
